Building Maintenance Electricians and Helpers

JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client is a comparative small city on the western edge of Orange County and close to both Windermere and Ocoee. The area has a vibrant business community, and the local chamber of commerce has over 1000 members. Downtown is very historic with a number of buildings and establishments on the national register of historic places. A variety of parks, museums, gardens, theatres, and special events provide an atmosphere that attracts both commerce and tourism to a safe and well run environment. The city has a diverse population of around 40,000.

The city has an immediate need for Building Maintenance Electricians & Helpers that will be engaged on a temp to hire basis.

WORK OBJECTIVE

This position requires skilled labor and ability to lead others in multiple trades. Incumbents in this classification receive assignments directly from the Facilities Supervisor. Individuals in this position may oversee other members of the Facilities Operations Department.

An employee in this class is responsible for work in maintenance, construction, alterations and repairs to city facilities. Duties include but not limited to determining work methods, best course of action and procedures without immediate supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs responsible journey level electrical work involving the installation, maintenance and repair work of equipment, machinery, power appliances, fixtures or other electrical components. Work is subject to review while in progress and upon completion for compliance with acceptable electrical standards.
  • Price, order, and obtain parts and equipment for a variety of maintenance projects.
  • Responds to calls during emergency situations, evaluating building damage and taking necessary steps to protect city property.
  • Work independently or cooperatively as a member of a team to complete work on schedule and according to quality control standards set by the Facilities Operations Manager.
  • Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment, maintenance procedures and maintains records of scheduled preventive maintenance.
  • Perform safety inspections of city buildings and facilities; oversee various other safety functions for city buildings such as maintenance of evacuation plans, emergency supplies, and first aid kits.
  • Must attend training and/or continuing education as assigned by the Facilities Operations Manager.
  • Keep records of work completed as needed and identifies and prioritizes preventive maintenance assignments.
  • May be required to troubleshoot and repair other building maintenance related issues such as; plumbing fixtures, pumps, valves, sprinkler systems, piping and installation of new fixtures.
  • May be required to perform preventative maintenance on HVAC Systems. Includes change filters, cleaning condensate drains and coils.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Builds, assembles, transports, installs and/or repairs facility furnishings and fixtures. Includes installation of bulletin boards, paper holders, desks, etc.
  • Stocks, delivers and inventory materials.
  • Cleans and maintains tools, equipment, materials and work sites.
  • Heavy equipment operation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma or GED.

· A valid Florida Drivers license & maintain a satisfactory driving record.

· One (1) year of education at a recognized electrical training institution.

· Two (2) years electrical field experience or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.

· Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed. Preferably, three (3) years of recent full-time building maintenance experience in commercial buildings and/or facilities that demonstrates possession of the following knowledge, skills and ability requirements.

· Able to obtain a Journeyman Certificate within 6 months of employment

  • Incumbents of this position are required to pass the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) online security training and background check on a biennial basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

· Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods & materials used in construction or maintenance such as carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, masonry, concrete, HVAC and pool operations.

· Considerable knowledge in occupational hazards and safety precautions as related to general building maintenance work.

  • Possess the ability to read and understand electrical blueprints, diagrams and maintenance instructions.

· Possess the ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to read and understand equipment diagrams and maintenance instructions.

· Possess basic computer skills.
